About the Java-o-matic!

The Java-o-matic is a site where you can learn Java by watching tutorials. These beginning tutorials are not designed to teach you every detail of Java. If you want to learn Java by starting at the beginning and covering each topic completely, I would recommend the Java Tutorials provided by Sun. The tutorials on this site cover the most useful parts of Java to help you get up to speed quickly and start making useful programs as soon as possible. For example, you will be using for and while loops much more frequently than do-while loops, so do-while loops are not covered in the basics of flow control. You can use the Sun tutorial or the other resources I have in the links section to fill in those gaps.

The Java-o-matic is being made by me, Curtis Fonger, an undergraduate at MIT (in Cambridge, MA). After looking for tutorials on other things, I wondered if there were any good video tutorials on Java, but they either costed money (which is bad, of course), they were only the bare basics, or they were really painful to watch. I hope these aren't as painful, but if they are, or if you have any suggestions to make them better, please send me an e-mail at email address or make a post under "Site Suggestions" on the forum. If I have time, I'll redo a lesson if you think it's really bad (we wouldn't want any unfortunate lessons to make it up here, now would we?). Or if you just like the videos and want to let me know that you are enjoying them, please let me know that too! There is no reason to have this site up here if no one is using it.

If you want to find out more about me, you can visit my college page at http://web.mit.edu/cfonger/www. But don't look too closely, or you might learn my most secret secrets!
